Ford, GM Capitalize on Toyota’s Troubles By Offering Incentives
As children, we’re taught not to kick a man when he’s down; corporations, however, use a very different playbook. Accordingly, Ford and General Motors have launched incentive campaigns to capitalize on Toyota’s ongoing recall misfortunes. GM is offering qualified buyers the chance to trade in their Toyota for a new GM car or truck with 60-month, no-interest financing. Ford is offering $1,000 rebates to customers who trade in a Toyota, Lexus, or Scion vehicle — and just to make things interesting, the company has extended the offer to Honda and Accord owners, too. Weirdly, Ford has excluded its hybrid models from the incentive plan, even though hybrids are exactly the sort of vehicles that might convert lifelong Toyota owners into Ford fans.
Accurate Mailing has prepared for the fast turnarounds that may be required should the dealers decide to beef up their direct mail campaigns. Snap mailings of full color postcards and Yellow Action Cards would be perfect for such efforts.
Interestingly, Honda, Nissan, and Hyundai have said that they don’t plan to offer incentives like Ford and GM. We’ll see how long they stick to those statements. [Bloomberg]
