Phoenix Hailstorm

(Oct. 5, 2010) — A series of freak thunderstorms struck Phoenix and the surrounding region this afternoon, abruptly cooling the city, forcing the Sky Harbor International Airport closed, and dumping an onslaught of rain and hail onto the city, some of it reportedly the size of golf balls. A Phoenix hailstorm of this size is very unusual. So far, no deaths or serious injuries have been reported in the Phoenix hailstorm, but there are numerous reports of damaged buildings and downed power lines. Accurate Mailing Services in Phoenix Arizona is providing direct mail for contractors who wish to mail into the Phoenix hailstorm area.

And according to the National Weather Service, more is on the way, although the affected area has changed: “The strongest storms will likely occur from late morning through early evening, and may generate damaging winds, heavy rain and large hail,” the weather service reports. A severe thunderstorm warning is in place for the Arizona cities of Tuscon, Oro Valley and Marana until 7 p.m.

But for many residents, the storm has already been freaky enough. Take a look at the numerous videos that were posted to YouTube steadily throughout the hailstorm :
